OSSLT

The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) administers the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) to determine whether students have acquired the minimum literacy (reading and writing) skills expected by the Ontario Curriculum across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9.

On Tuesday, March 29, 2022, Grade 11 and non-Graduating Grade 12 students in YCDSB schools had the opportunity to meet the literacy graduation requirement. Students in Grade 10 will be able to take the literacy test later on in the year on Wednesday, April 27, 2022.

The OSSLT was only administered in person. Remote learners who wished to participate had to make arrangements to and from school.

Following the completion of the test, each participating student will get an Individual Student Report. The findings are confidential and will indicate how well the participant is mastering the required literacy skills, which are the foundation for success in all subjects and in life beyond school.  Students who do not pass the Literacy Test will be given assistance, including the chance to retake the test or enroll in the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OSSLC).
