In 1980, when he got one of his legs amputated due to the cancer of osteosarcoma, Terry decided to dedicate his life to running across Canada in hopes of raising enough money to help find a cure for cancer. Unfortunately, Terry did not live long enough to complete his Marathon of Hope, but he did build a legacy for many Canadians.

Henry Lam (12) said “to run for Terry Fox, for those who can’t run, is the meaning of the Marathon of Hope”, and I couldn’t have said it better myself.
