On November 21, 2022, the well-known and respected Belgian fashion designer, Raf Simons, announced on his brand’s official Instagram page that the Spring/Summer 2023 collection (shown in October in London) would be the conclusion and the final season of his eponymous brand ‘Raf Simons’. The news was very unexpected and sudden to the public as the Belgian designer has been promoting his seasonal campaigns, home goods, and collaborations so promptly.  read more

Preeminent Pride

Although it has been pre-established to celebrate LGBTQ+ representation and accomplishments in the media all year round, June is the preeminent month for preeminent pride! Many would agree that the most influential vessel of minority representation and normalization would be the entertainment industry since billions of people around the world tune into blockbuster films and viral music videos on social media. As a result, these billions of people will be exposed to depictions of the struggles and successes of multifarious kinds of communities. Much to our dismay, LGBTQ+ people in the past were not accurately depicted and were never featured as protagonists in films; they were just there as certain tropes (e.g. the gay best friend) or for comedic relief, rarely as characters central to the film’s thematic, significant message. Stranger Things Returns!

On May 27th, 2022, part one of the fourth season of Stranger Things was released, with part two soon to be followed on July 1st. This season was a big jump from the last, as episode run times are now longer and characters are further from each other throughout the storyline. This ensures that all the characters are getting enough screen time, making it seem balanced and not as though they are fighting for the spotlight. After being cancelled back in 2020, fashion’s biggest night, the Met Gala, was revived on the first Monday in May 2022. Organizers revealed that the theme of this glitzy, long-awaited night was “Glided Glamour,” leading the general public to anticipate themes of celebrating 19th-century opulence and grandeur evoked by the sartorial red-carpet looks. However, viewers were underwhelmed, to say the least. They were disappointed by the rise of social media trendy outfits which were worn by some celebrities and the demise of simply beautiful, chic apparel during these premier fashion exhibitions, affectionately coining this issue with a question, “Who Understood the Assignment?” read more
