Heartstopper Season 1 has graced our screens with its captivating love story for just over 20 days, but to all those YA Romance book lovers, this story is already a familiar favourite. Alice Oseman first published her graphic novel in 2019, and it quickly gained traction.

April is wrapping up with some blasting music and many epic performances with the return of Coachella. Over the course of two consecutive weekends, one of the world’s most famous music festivals has had quite a few pop culture influencers make news headlines. For those of you not as familiar with it, here’s a quick rundown of what Coachella is all about:

“As it Was” Harry Styles
Harry Styles starts the month of April off on the right foot by breaking the male-artist record for the most Spotify streams globally in a single day; achieved by his release of the single, “As it Was.” Music critics marvel at his transition from 70s soft rock and ballads to 80s synthpop. Listeners are hooked right from the beginning with its catchy percussion, a modern twist on classic pop music, and his tranquil, earworm vocals. However upbeat and pleasing the instrumental may be, Styles’ lyrical artistry is quite a puzzling, sombre one. Some of the hit single’s lyrics allude to his past relationships, such as with Olivia Wilde. His lyrics are used as a method of personal storytelling, demonstrating his yearning for freedom.

Canadian Bao director and Academy Award winner, Domee Shi, has released yet another wildly successful movie: Turning Red. Originally released on February 21, 2022, this movie has wormed its way into the hearts of people everywhere.

In the last few years, Hollywood has tried hard to be inclusive of all. Reducing racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination have been their greatest goal. With the rise of nepotism in the industry, there has been talk about whether this is good or bad. While some are for it, saying that these talented families have the power to keep their name in the industry, others are against it.

The 64th Grammy Awards took place on April 3rd, 2022, hosted by Trevor Noah. All the winners were well deserved and the performances were spectacular. From Doja Cat’s bathroom incident, to BTS’s V flirting with Olivia Rodrigo, the Grammys were enough to say that it was a success this year. Of course there were some questionable moments, from outfits to performances, but let’s focus on the best Grammy moments of 2022.

Even without Will Smith galvanizing people to tune into and bash the Oscars 2022, the general public and film fanatics all agreed that this event was an hot, awkward mess.

The highly awaited film Morbius was released earlier this month with excited audience members after the trailer for the movie dropped in January 2020. Another film based on the widely known Marvel Comics is, of course, an action-packed movie falling into the adventure genre. The plot revolves around the main character Michael Morbius who suffers from a rare blood disorder, and as a doctor, he wishes to prevent others from going through the same suffering he has. Eventually, he comes close to completely achieving his goal until an experiment goes wrong and transforms Morbius into a vampire. Soon enough, the growing darkness within him gets unleashed out into the world.

On April 3rd, hip-hop star Doja Cat won her very first Grammy, after 11 nominations, for her hit single “Kiss Me More.” But just days before, after being called out by fans, Doja Cat threatened to quit music for good.

On Sunday, March 13th, Power of the Dog director, Jane Campion was awarded a Critics Choice Award (CCA) for Best Director. Her acceptance speech received a lot of backlash, and for good reason.
