Dance Club: Get Your Groove On!
If you want to get your groove on, dance club is the place for you! Showcasing many different styles, you are bound to find a place to fit in at dance club. The most recent event at which dance club has performed was the St. Robert CHS’s Semi-Formal: Viva Las Vegas. In preparation, the dancers devoted every Monday and Friday afternoon to learning how to perfect the choreography for the students to enjoy. Environmental Club: Fighting Ignorance and Encouraging Stewardship
Many people do not realize that improving our environment is actually very simple. Turning off lights, printing on used paper, recycling the proper things, or not purchasing plastic bags can have a huge and positive impact on the world we live in and for future generations. The environmental club’s primary goal is to raise awareness and ultimately enhance our school community. Many events are held during the year to highlight what we can do to increase our environmental stewardship.
Rams Design Council: St. Robert’s Underground Art Department
Ever wonder who creates the artwork shown in and around St. Robert? Have you noticed that the banners and signs used to advertise and during events seem more prominent and enticing this year? Well chances are, the Design Club is largely at fault for nurturing our school’s artistic scene. Officially known as Rams Design Council, Design Club members are able to use their “artistic talents, imagination and creativity to contribute to the school community,” as described by club member Wendy Y. Started this year by Ms. Brockest, Art Department Head, the club is dedicated to designing different pieces of artwork, as requested by the school for special events or advertising.
Behind the Scenes: The Arts Council
During Halloween, you walk towards the cafeteria and BAM! You see Halloween “Head-in-the-Hole” cutouts (better known as, cut-out stand-ins), just like the ones found at amusement parks. During Christmas season, St.Robert becomes suddenly more festive with Christmas-themed lockers. These touches of creativity and innovation hit us immediately- creating feelings of excitement and elation toward the festive season.
Board Games Club: Taking The “Bored” Out of Board Games
If you haven’t heard the announcements already, Board Games Club is one of St. Robert’s newest clubs. The club takes playing board games to a new level by allowing its members to meet new people while de-stressing from the school week. Currently, there are 20-30 regular members; however, the drop-in attendance and open invitation allows students to attend sessions at their leisure.
Together As One
November 12th and 13th saw not only the uniting of a Catholic school community, but the nations of the world. This year, CSUNA (Catholic Schools United Nations Assembly) took place at Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts. Students from across the YCDSB joined together to model a typical United Nations meeting. This consisted of five different committees: General Assembly (GA), World Health Organization (WHO), Human Rights (HR), Economic and Social (ECOSOC) and Security Council (SC). Each country, depending on its size, is assigned between 1 and 5 committees.
Sign Language Club: The Club That Will Leave You Speechless
Wouldn’t you like to be able to communicate with only your gestures? Learn another language? Or have secret conversations with your friends and not even make a sound? Then, American Sign Language (ASL) club is the club for you. At St.Robert, there is a sign language club to teach you signs, play games, and learn new things. Sign language gives people with hearing disabilities a creative and innovative way to communicate. Like any other spoken languages, ASL is a natural language with complex structures and rules.
2014-2015 DECA
Established in 1946, DECA is a worldwide organization that provides key skills to individuals to prepare them for the business world. Over the past 60 years, they have had a major influence on over 10 million students, teachers and business administrators. This organization allows one to develop skills with respect to public speaking and the ability to think quickly and formulate effective presentations. St. Robert has been fortunate to have this well-known organization established here.
